No one remembers his true name. Malachar is the title he earned after a hundred years of study in forbidden libraries — a name that wizards only whisper when they are certain they are alone.

His robe is not fabric — it is solidified shadow, interwoven with arcane symbols that change shape depending on who observes them. His luminous white eyes do not see the physical world: they perceive the flows of magical energy that pass through everything, every being, every thought.

The gem on his chest pulsates with its own light. Those who have had the misfortune of looking at it for too long say they felt something shift within themselves — as if a part of their soul had been gently, inexorably, extracted.
